What is the foundation 6-session block?
At The Spark, we support children and families through targeted, goal-focused therapy. As part of this model, we begin with a Foundation 6-Session Block designed to build understanding, explore needs, and begin working toward meaningful outcomes together.
The initial 6-session block provides an opportunity for:

-
Collaborating with you to set clear goals and identify next steps
-
Exploring your child’s strengths, interests, and challenges through a developmental lens
-
Exploring and experimenting with strategies to support their goals
-
Building you and your child’s capacity

Each session is tailored to what you have identified as most important to you. This may include:
-
Sessions with your child
-
Parent coaching – this is often the focus when you are seeking support with your child’s emotional regulation and behaviour
-
A visit to their educational setting
-
Written feedback is provided after each session with ideas for you to continue with.

In the 4th or 5th session of the foundation block...
you meet with your child's OT to review progress, reflect on what’s working and decide on the most appropriate care pathway moving forward. This is 30-minute phone call with 30-minute report writing time.
The options are:
-
Continuing with a further 10 sessions. In this case, OT goals will be established together.
-
Having a break from OT so you can focus on experimenting with strategies and consolidating skills (you can return to the waiting list for further OT sessions). In this case, a summary report will be prepared with key ideas and strategies.
-
Discharge from OT
-
Referral to other services
-
Parent coaching

We have developed this pathway to ensure therapy is purposeful, goal-directed, and focused on building skills and capacity for your child and the people supporting them.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how this model can support your child’s therapy journey, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
