Further OT sessions - Planning Ahead
At The Spark, we believe that real change happens when strategies and ideas are woven into everyday life. The ultimate aim of childhood intervention is to reduce reliance on therapy by building the capacity of children and families to problem-solve new challenges as they arise—drawing on skills, tools, and insights gained through the therapeutic process.
When you decide to extend service, you and your OT will:
-
Review and if needed, update goals for the additional sessions.
-
If you are having regular service, a termly parent coaching session is needed to support shared problem solving and explore how to integrate strategies at home. This is also an opportunity to check in about:
-
The progress your child has made toward their goals
-
What supports may still be needed
-
What options you may like to explore
-
If you decide it is time to take a break from OT, possible options include:
-
Return to the waiting list for a future block of OT
-
Explore other services
-
Engaging a support worker or therapy assistant to carry out therapy ideas in everyday routines
-
Parent coaching and collaboration sessions
-
Participation in group therapy programs
-
Access to our parent and carer education workshops
During your break from OT:
Parent Coaching
You can book in for a parent coaching session if an issue arises that you would like to problem solve together. These sessions can help you continue building your confidence in supporting your child’s needs day-to-day and adjusting strategies as new challenges emerge.
NDIS Review Reports
If you have an upcoming NDIS Plan Review, we can complete a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) Report. To allow time for scheduling and preparation, please contact us at least 6 weeks prior to your NDIS meeting.
The process for completing an FCA includes:
-
60-minute parent consultation to review goals, current function, and any changes
-
4-6 hours of report writing time to complete the Functional Capacity Assessment
