Planning Ahead
Approaching the end of your child's 16-session block
Having completed 10 OT sessions together, this is an opportunity to reflect on what’s working well, review progress, and plan forward with intention.
At The Spark, we believe that real change happens when strategies and ideas are woven into everyday life. The ultimate aim of childhood intervention is to reduce reliance on therapy by building the capacity of children and families to problem-solve new challenges as they arise—drawing on skills, tools, and insights gained through the therapeutic process.
As we have 6 more OT sessions, we’ll consider together:
-
The progress your child has made toward their goals
-
What supports may still be needed
-
What options you may explore during your child’s break from OT.
Next steps:
Your OT will schedule a review and planning session with you, around Session 13, to allow space for collaborative decision-making and discussion of options.
Following the 16th session, possible options include:
-
Return to the waiting list for a future block of OT
-
Explore other services
-
Engaging a support worker or therapy assistant to carry out therapy ideas in everyday routines
-
Parent coaching and collaboration sessions
-
Participation in group therapy programs
-
Access to our parent and carer education workshops
-
No further occupational therapy service required and discharge from The Spark.
An OT Summary will be completed at the end of the 16-session block (60 mins report writing charge), summarizing your child’s progress, key strategies and recommendations.
